Welcome to The Hitting Log ("The Hitting Log," "we," "our," or "us"). Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have regarding your information when you use our website and application.

By using The Hitting Log, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

Account Information

• Password (encrypted through our authentication provider)

• A user's affirmation of parent or legal guardian permission, when applicable

Athlete Information

Users may choose to enter:

• Hitting statistics

Payment Information

Paid subscriptions are securely processed by our payment provider.

We never store your complete credit card information.

We may automatically collect:

• Operating system

• App usage

AI Interaction Information

When you use Hitting Log AI, we process the question you submit, AI-generated responses, and information derived from your recorded hitting data that is relevant to your question. Up to six previous messages from the current browser session may be sent to The Hitting Log to help interpret follow-up questions. Those previous messages are not currently forwarded verbatim to OpenAI.

How We Use Information

Your Data

Your hitting data belongs to you.

We do not sell your personal information or athlete data.

Sharing Information

The Hitting Log LLC only shares information with service providers when necessary to operate, protect, and deliver The Hitting Log. The categories of providers we currently use include:

• Supabase for authentication and database services
• Stripe for payment and subscription processing
• Vercel for application hosting and deployment
• Cloudflare for domain services, website security, traffic routing, caching, and related network services
• Resend for transactional email delivery
• GitHub for source-code hosting and deployment integration
• OpenAI for artificial intelligence processing and generation of Hitting Log AI responses

We may also disclose information when required by law.

Artificial Intelligence and Third-Party AI Services

The Hitting Log includes an AI-powered feature called Hitting Log AI. We use application programming interface services provided by OpenAI to generate certain Hitting Log AI responses. OpenAI acts as a third-party service provider involved in providing this functionality.

Many direct statistical questions are calculated and answered by The Hitting Log without requesting an AI-generated response from OpenAI. When OpenAI processing is used, The Hitting Log may transmit:

• The current question or prompt
• Selected, calculated summaries of relevant hitting statistics and performance metrics
• Aggregated information about game counts, plate appearances, outcomes, timing, contact, swing decisions, and pitch-location patterns
• Relevant sample descriptions, which may include an opponent or tournament name
• Hitter handedness, when recorded and relevant to interpreting pitch locations
• A pseudonymous account identifier used for safety and abuse-prevention purposes

We use date of birth and, when applicable, the user's affirmation of parent or legal guardian permission to determine age eligibility and apply account and Hitting Log AI requirements. Date of birth, exact age, age category, and guardian-permission information are not intentionally sent to OpenAI.

The current implementation does not intentionally send OpenAI the athlete's name, email address, date of birth, the player's team information, or raw database records containing complete games, at-bats, or pitches. However, information a user voluntarily includes in a question will be transmitted as part of that question. Users should not include unnecessary sensitive personal information in Hitting Log AI prompts.

The Hitting Log processes raw game, at-bat, and pitch records within its own application logic and provides OpenAI with selected calculated information needed to generate the response. AI-generated output is then returned to the user through The Hitting Log.

OpenAI states that data submitted through its API is not used to train or improve its models by default unless the API customer has explicitly opted in to data sharing. The Hitting Log configures its OpenAI requests with response storage disabled. This does not necessarily prevent separate temporary retention for security or abuse-prevention purposes. Under OpenAI's standard API data controls, OpenAI may retain API inputs, outputs, and related metadata in abuse-monitoring logs for up to 30 days, unless a different approved retention configuration applies or longer retention is required for legal or safety reasons. Hitting Log AI may produce inaccurate, incomplete, unexpected, or inappropriate responses. Users should independently evaluate AI-generated information before relying on it.

Data Security

We use commercially reasonable security measures to protect your information.

Although no online service is perfectly secure, we continually work to safeguard your data using industry-standard practices.

Data Retention

We retain your information while your account remains active or as necessary to provide our services and comply with legal obligations.

The Hitting Log does not currently save Hitting Log AI conversation transcripts to its database or browser storage. Messages are held temporarily in browser memory during the current page session, and a limited number of previous messages are processed by The Hitting Log's server when needed to understand a follow-up question. OpenAI may retain information submitted through its API in accordance with the OpenAI API data controls described above.

You may request deletion of your account by contacting us.

Children's Privacy

Account owners must be at least 13 years old. Users under 13 are not permitted to create or maintain an account with The Hitting Log, and parent or legal guardian permission does not override this minimum age requirement.

Users ages 13 through 17 may use The Hitting Log, including Hitting Log AI, only with permission from a parent or legal guardian. The application requires these users to affirm that they have received permission; The Hitting Log does not independently verify the identity of the parent or legal guardian or independently verify that permission.

Users age 18 or older may create and use an account without parent or legal guardian permission. If you believe a child under 13 has created or maintained an account or provided personal information through The Hitting Log, please contact us so we can review the matter and take appropriate action.

Third-Party Services

The Hitting Log LLC uses third-party providers for authentication and database services (Supabase); payment and subscription processing (Stripe); application hosting and deployment (Vercel); domain services, website security, traffic routing, caching, and related network services (Cloudflare); transactional email delivery (Resend); source-code hosting and deployment integration (GitHub); and artificial intelligence processing and generation of Hitting Log AI responses (OpenAI).

When you access The Hitting Log, certain technical information—such as your IP address, browser information, device information, and request data—may be processed by infrastructure and security providers such as Cloudflare and Vercel to deliver, protect, and maintain the service.

Your Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

• Correct your information
• Request deletion
• Request a copy of your data

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically.

When we make significant updates, we will revise the Effective Date.
